Day 65. Broome - Relaxing. The next two weeks is a holiday. 15/07/2015

Clear blue skies again with the joyous bird calls greeting us this morning. It is so lovely to hear the birds again as there have been a number of places visited that we did not see or hear the birds.
A stiff breeze that blows the leaves into our annexe gives me a morning job of sweeping and John always comments that I am never happier than when I have a broom in my hand!
We left late morning to collect Neil and Sue from their caravan park a bit out of town. They cannot be here with us as they have a little dog travelling with them and the Pistol Club is the only park that is dog friendly. They were ready for us when we arrived and had arrange a dog sitter for a few hours.
We travelled a short distance to the turnoff to Gantheaume Point and found the road to be an unmade road (bright red sand) but it was quite well graded so our journey was comfortable enough. We did a detour to Reddell Beach with is a spectacular section of beach. We then stopped at the Lighthouse at Gantheaume Point that is an unusual structure for a lighthouse as it made from stainless steel.  The property next to the lighthouse is now privately owned and features beautiful gardens. The views from the house would be just magnificent. We walked down to the cliff face to see the dinosaur footprints reputedly from 120 millions years ago. The view across to Cable Beach was wonderful.  Cable Beach is one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in the world. Cable Beach takes its name from the cable which linked Broome with what is present day Indonesia.
John wanted to take a look at the Broome Racecourse that is situated on the Point, and as we entered the Manager of the complex spoke to us an invited us to drive into the private area that has stables for 160 horses and camping accommodation for those concerned in the industry. It was very rustic but with plenty of shade for the horses. The next race meeting is next week and John has already indicated that he wants to go.
The four of us returned to the town centre to meet Keith and Pat at the Mangrove Resort and Hotel to enjoy a very lovely lunch out on the lawns with a magnificent view over the Indian Ocean. It was a very enjoyable afternoon spent with all the cousins together in Broome. Strange to think we don't seem to get together back in Victoria (when we do it is mostly for funerals),  but have managed to catchup  by travelling some 5000 ks.!
Keith gave us some ideas for sightseeing whilst we are here and we now have a list to work to.

The Gantheaume Point Lighthouse is made of stainless steel.
The private property (old light house keepers land) had beautiful gardens.

On the point.
The view back to Cable Beach and colourful rock cliffs.
The Mangrove Resort beer gardens.
The three Boyd cousins Keith Boyd, Neil and Wendy.
An excellent Day at the Mangrove.
