Day 30. Devils Marbels to Mataranka. 10/06/2015

Left the Marbles very early with the intention of spending time at Banka Banka. A  brief stop at Tennant Creek for a refuel and a coffee and we were on the road again for Banka Banka.
We arrived there at around noon. Amazing how things change. We decided that we could put our time to better use by continuing on. We had a call from Jude & Rod who were at Mataranka and said how beautiful it was.
Well that became the target for the day.
I think we had learnt a big lesson from spending a least half a day wasted at Devils Marbles and we  decided to move on.
Our next stop was at the heritage listed Renner Springs Hotel that was built in1871. Not a clear space for your name on the walls and hats hanging from the rafters. There have been many tourists calling in here. A cold drink and great hamburger and we were off for the iconoc Daly Waters Pub.
We had planned a stay there but the park was full. After a cool drink and some happy snaps of the quirky and interesting features of the pub, the Prado roared into action for another 200 km drive to Mataranka.
The trip was interesting as we spent time viewing anthills dressed in various regalia. There were singlets, demon football jumpers, bras and panties and shirts, hats and sunglasses.
The other fascinating observations were the numerous eagles circling in the wind seeking dead road kill. We helped the situation by flattening a snake that tried to cross a vehicle of 2 tonne pulling a 2 1/2 tonne van. All the passenger wheels of the Prado and Calinda would have made quite a mess.
680 kms on from the Devils Marbles (we were pushed along with a strong tail wind) we were welcomed by Jude and Rod at the Territory Mataranka Manor Caravan Park. We arrived just on dusk, but with Rod’s help, had the van set up very quickly. A cold Carlton Draught and BBQ dinner provided by Rod and Jude had John ready for bed by eight.
A long day but we saw what we wanted to see along the way.
