Day 33. Mataranka to Katherine NT. 13/06/2015

After a very warm night when we had the air conditioner on for most it, we left Mataranka quite early.  The journey forward up the Stuart Highway was to be about 105kms so we drove straight through to Katherine without stopping.  The drive into the park was very picturesque with a lovely river flowing rapidly that made John's mouth water!  The Big4 Katherine Holiday Park itself is wonderful with beautiful gardens and huge gums.  We have another excellent site with plenty of green grass which makes a very nice change from red dirt.  We have been told that the river has Barramundi and Crocs but it would seem that will not deter John from doing some fishing.
During the morning we were informed by Belinda, Lenny's mum, that her grandparents Faye and Lindsay Knights were in Katherine and, as it turned out, not only are they staying in the same park but have a site directly opposite us. After setting up we spent an hour catching up with them and later they joined us together with Faye's sister Royce and brother-in-law David, for Happy Hour.
Lenny is so lucky to have such wonderful great grandparents.  Faye and Lindsay (both now in their 80's) have done a great deal of caravanning around Australia and they are a wealth of information.
Looking forward to exploring around the Katherine area in the next few days, including a visit to the famous Katherine Gorge.
Another great site at Katherine.

Lenny's Great-grandparents Lindsay and Faye.

Happy Hour with Lindsay, Faye, David and Royce. Great Company.
The Katherine River. The single lane low level bridge is the entry to Park.

Local swimming hole - no fear of crocs here.

Great barramundi waters but I think he has a rock fish.
