It poured raining during the night and this morning we woke up in a swimming pool ! Fortunately we did not have to get up during the night as we would have been 10-15 cms in water as the drains beneath us had backed up. We were able to leave the park early so we headed off towards Kalbarri a distance of about 300 kms. The road was mostly straight with a few undulating hills and the scenery was typical coastal views with an interesting mix of wildflowers for some distance, and then all of a sudden, we were driving through magnificent wheat growing areas on both sides of the road. The wheat farmers are having a wonderful season and must be looking forward to bumper crops this year. We went through another storm that would have dropped another 20mls on the crops.
On our arrival in Kalbarri we were able to secure a site for one night only and we were thrilled with our location. We had a nice grassy site with lovely views of the river and the ocean. After a late lunch we had a drive around the waterfront and saw a number of boats both fishing and tourist boats moored in the bay. A small but compact township that reminded us of Merimbula but on a slightly smaller scale. A very popular place for holiday makers. Our treat tonight was to have a lovely Roast Dinner prepared especially in our honour by Don and Heather and Rod and Jude as we had not been travelling with them for over 2 weeks, and we needed to catch up and exchange stories of what each of us had been doing. A very pleasant evening for us and lovely to have their company again.
